Career hitman Markham saw a glimpse of Hell, and now in order to avoid that afterlife, he is on a redemptive quest to save lives instead of take them. He has been at it for three issues now, but here he finds out not everyone is happy with his new agenda. Worse, he has hardly anyone he can rely on as a friend. Jay Faerber continues to put his protagonist in difficult situations that might suck for Markham, but are awesome for us readers.

What kind of friends does a hitman have? Who would be friends with a guy who kills people for a living? It is a funny question that Faerber plays with during this issue as Markham's "friend" Sutton has second thoughts about keeping company with him. It is those kinds of dynamics that have made this series so much fun to read, and judging by the punch in the reader's gut delivered on the last page, things are only just starting to get interesting.

Simone Guglielmini creates an incredibly detailed world for Markam to operate in, especially the establishing shot of China Town, which is so well done it might as well be a frame from a crime movie. His style is gritty, but instead of falling into tired old noir/criminal tropes, he keeps his drawings fresh, dynamic, and full of life. Until someone gets shot, that is.
