Snoop Dogg was born Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr. on October 20, 1971 in Long Beach, California. He got the nickname "Snoopy" from his mother, who called him that because of the way he dressed and that he loved the series Peanuts. He was a member of the Rollin' 20's Crips, leading to him being in and out of jail over the next three years after graduating high school. Seeing more potential in him, the members of the gang told him to do something better with his life. His first album, "Doggystyle," was released in 1993 and became the first debut album to ever enter the charts at #1. After releasing his second album, "The Dogfather," in 1996, he refused to work anymore for Suge Knight and left Death Row Records.
