Champion Volibear Unveiled For League of Legends
- 0 Comments
The floppy-tainted nipplegobblins at Riot Games have released a new Champion Spotlight, this time showing off "Volibear, the Thunder's Roar. Of course, it's a bit difficult to make out the champ's features since the game's character graphics are so weak.

Ubisoft Lets Them Eat Cake At 25 Year Celebration
- 2 Comments
Ubisoft is celebrating its 25th anniversary, or at least Blue Byte is. There's some cake eating action going on at the Blue Byte office. But the main reason I'm posting this is because the guy in the 4th picture is totally going for his gun! I demand the "after" shots.

Skyrim Is A Big Hit In Japan
MCV reports that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the first game developed in the West to receive a perfect 40/40 score from the Japanese consumer games mag called "Famitsu". Four reviews each score the game out of ten, then the scores are added together for an overall total. Skyrim is the 17th game to receive a perfect.

Former developers to claim the crown include Nintendo (Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Nintendogs, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Pokemon Black and White and Skyward Sword), Nacmo (Soulcalibur), Square Enix (Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII, Dragon Quest IX, Konami (Metal Gear Solid 4, MGS Peace Walker), Sega (Bayonetta) and Capcom (Monster Hunter Tri).

A few Western titles have come close before, grabbing 39/40 scores.

These include Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, COD: Black Ops, Gears of War 3, and FIFA 12.

R.A.W. - Realms Of Ancient War Screenshots
- 0 Comments
Here are some new screenshots for R.A.W. - Realms Of Ancient War, a heroic-fantasy hack ‘n’ slash from Wizardbox and Focus Home Interactive. Watch for RAW to hit PC Digital, XBLA and PSN in early 2012.

Take control of a powerful Warrior, a dark Sorcerer or a Rogue master of stealth, and plunge into a grand quest full of action! The world of R.A.W. leads you, alone or in 2-player co-op, through many levels as rich as varied in every corner of the continent.

Along your quest, the experience gained through the violent battles you will fight and the weapons and magic items you will loot on the lifeless bodies of your opponents will allow you to develop the power of your chosen character. You will learn new powers and spells ever more devastating, some of which, when mastered, will allow you to inflict tremendous damage and eradicate several dozens of enemies at once… as they will often rally in hordes to fight you!

Legend of Grimrock Hits Beta, Slightly Delayed

Legend of Grimrock (which I keep wanting to call Legend of Grimlock) has reached beta, and Finnish developer Almost Human reports that all features, enemies and levels that are going to be in the game are now in place. Grimrock is a dungeon crawl RPG for the PC, with Mac and iOS to follow. The four-man development team includes industry vets with previous work on Max Payne 2, Shattered Horizon, Allan Wake and more. Legend of Grimrock was originally slated for release at the end of 2011, but it's just been pushed up to early 2012. Check out some media from the latest beta build of Grimrock.

Iran bans Battlefield 3

According to Lebanon’s The Daily Star, Iran has banned Battlefield 3 because of the single player campaign’s depiction of an American attack on Teheran.

"All computer stores are prohibited from selling this illegal game," an unnamed deputy with the security and intelligence division of Iran's police said in a statement carried by the Asr-e Ertebat weekly.

A Tehran-based IT union warned all shops to abide by the ban.

The story goes on to cite a claim by Iranian Media that the game was banned as a result of an online petition by a group of young Iranians.

"We understand that the story of a videogame is hypothetical ... (but) we believe the game is purposely released at a time when the US is pushing the international community into fearing Iran," the group said in an online petition, with more than 5,000 signatories so far.

The same Iranian news agency published an Editorial stating that Battlefield 3 is “conditioning American youth for another war for Israel.”

This is not the first time that a country has banned a game for political reasons. The Russian Federation banned Modern Warfare 2 because of the airport massacre sequence. Additionally, the People’s Republic of China banned the Hearts of Iron series for "distorting history and damaging China's sovereignty and territorial integrity." China also banned Command and Conquer Generals for "smearing the image of China and the Chinese army."

Thanks to EuroGamer for the heads up about this.

Former PC Gamer Duder Tom Francis Finally Shows Off Gunpoint
- 9 Comments
You may recognize Tom Francis' name from previous editions of PC Gamer, and if so, you may be happy to learn that he's now doing his thing as an indie developer of a little game called Gunpoint. Gunpoint, according to the official website, and the recently released gameplay video, is a stealth puzzle game that actually allows players to do all sorts of goofy stuff such as rewire switches, lights, and elevators in order to complete mission objectives.

Strangely enough, Francis is actually planning on releasing Gunpoint for free. Honestly, after seeing the video, I'm with the crowd that have been telling him he's crazy. I'm actually wondering if there's possibly even more to the game name itself, where he's being forced to make the game for free at gunpoint. All I know is I'd happily throw a few bucks his way, and I haven't even tried the game yet. Check out the video to get a vibe of what he's going for. Looks fun, doesn't it?

Guten Morgen, Kameraden!

I hope that you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday and/or weekend. I spent my time in Texas where I ate a lot of turkey. I had ulterior motives for traveling to Texas, however. There were rumors that a great General resided in the Dallas area, and I hoped to challenge and defeat this man on his home turf as a prelude to my upcoming C&C; Generals: Zero Hour duel against Ohm.

What's Next for L.A. Noire Creator? Whore of the Orient
- 0 Comments

Brendan McNarmara's next game Whore of the Orient will be "one of the great untold stories of the twentieth century," apparently taking place in Shanghi, also referred to as "whore of the Orient, Paris of the East." The game will coincide with a movie both produced by KMM Interactive who snapped up Team Bondi after the studio closed. Aside from Whore of the Orient, KMM will also be putting out a movie/video game pairing for Happy Feet 2. Thanks VG247.

Magicka Madness Monday
A wizard contracting for VE3D was able to cast a few sleep spells at Paradox Interactive’s offices and returned with 10 keys for the recently released Magicka Collection. After accepting the keys, I discretely disposed of the wizard because, as our adorable macot McBlinks once told me in a dream, “when dealing with sorcerers always be ready to shove the sacrificial knife into their guts before they do it to you.”

Anyway, this marks the start of Magicka Madness Monday! We’ll be giving away ten free copies of the Magicka Collection. Five copies will be given away via our Steam group while the other five will be given to people who post in this thread. To enter the random drawing, write about what kind of magic spell you’d like to be able to cast (either in videogames or real life). What will the effects of this spell be?

Winners will be announced tomorrow. And keep your eyes open for more giveaways this week. McBlinks has prophesied that we’ll have a few more.

OutRun Online Arcade To Disappear From Xbox Live Arcade Forever
- 0 Comments
Heads up console fans - OutRun Online Arcade will soon be pulled from the Xbox Live Arcade store due to an expiration of the Ferrari license between Sega and the exotic car maker. It was revealed last year that the expiration would take effect on the Xbox 360 platform in "December 2011", which means that the removal could be just days away.

It's not currently clear if existing owners will continue to be able to download and play OutRun Online Arcade once it's yanked, but at the moment it's still available for 400MSP. You should probably jump on it if you've been meaning to check it out, otherwise you may never have the opportunity again.

Total War: Shogun 2 -- Fall of the Samurai Announced
- 4 Comments
Total War: Shogun 2 – Fall of the Samurai is coming to strategy-lovers in March 2012. "Fall of the Samurai" is a standalone expansion for Total War: Shogun 2. Here's the scoop:

Fall of the Samurai explores the conflict between the Imperial throne and the last Shogunate in 19th century Japan, 400 years after the events of the original game – a dramatic clash of traditional Samurai culture with the explosive power of modern weaponry.

New on the scene will be America, Britain and France, whose arrival incites a ferocious civil war to decide the fate of the nation. You’ll be able to play one of six new playable clans, supporting either the Imperial throne or the last Shogunate.

In Fall of the Samurai, we’ll be supporting features like railway networks, ironclad warships, improved siege battle mechanics (with upgradable tower defences, each with their own speciality).

There will be whole new land and sea unit interactions, including the ability to call in offshore artillery support barrages. Coastal gun emplacements can conversely target enemy ships, bringing a new synergy to land and sea elements of gameplay. Players can even call in campaign map bombardments – bombarding armies and cities in adjacent coastal areas of the campaign map itself. It’s time to rethink your strategy…

You’ll also be able to get your hands on three new agent types: the Foreign Veteran, the Ishin Shishi and the Shinsengumi.

Mulltiplayer’s also had a major overhaul, ushering in the era of “Multiplayer 2.0”. We’ll be introducing a new Conquest map, reflecting the 19th century setting, bringing with it a brand new Fall of the Samurai avatar, including:

We’re also introducing multiple avatars for the first time, allowing players to enjoy multiple careers and progression across Shogun 2 and Fall of the Samurai.

This huge clash of eastern culture versus western culture promises to bring with it a vast new experience for players. Expect a big campaign to get your hands on. We’ll bring more information on it over the coming weeks and months, so be sure to stay tuned to the Total War blog, forums, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr for more information as it’s released.

The Morning Juberish
The VE curse strikes again, I'm sick. I think it might be an Andromeda Strain of Captain Trips and a side order of Shiva, probably caused by the Clone-Killing Nanovirus that's going around. While waiting on Death's Doorstep I decided to kill some time with Batman: Arkham City. It's a great game to play when you're sick, because it doesn't take much effort. Combat is stupid but fun as hell. Stupid because you can (if you so choose) sit there and hit one key and still crit like crazy. Fun as hell because it's fast-paced combat and the moves are slick as all get out.

I'm stupid, though. I can spend forever on a single objective or puzzle because I'm so shit at solving them. For example, when looking for Mr. Freeze you have to find the area with the lowest temperature in the city. You have a Climate Analyzer to follow, which should make it easy, right? I kept getting distracted by shiny things and spent a couple of hours tracking the location. But really, even without the tracking unit, which direction do you most likely have to go to find him? NORTH FFS! /Bonk.

If the old Lucasfilm tip-line had of been available in Canada, I'd probably still be in debt to them to this day.
