Keira Knightley may trade in her usual period garb and critics' darling roles for a trip to Neo-Tokyo in Warners' increasingly Westernized version of the anime classic Akira.

In confirming the news that Tron: Legacy's Garrett Hedlund is in talks to play Kaneda, The Hollywood Reporter says that the former Pirates of the Caribbean starlet has also been approached for a role in the film.

Unknown's Jaume Collet-Serra will direct the Warner Bros. movie, which also has Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter circling roles.

THR also reports that two actors have emerged as frontrunners for the role of the dangerous telekinetic Tetsuo Shima: Ezra Miller (We Need To Talk About Kevin, Royal Pains) and two-time Coppola vet Alden Ehrenreich (Tetro, Twixt).
