DCS: Black Shark 2 Released
So I recently got the opportunity to play the Trine 2 Beta which is the first section of the game up until the first "boss" encounter. In my play through I felt it was more along the lines of marketing beta/demo than it was to find bugs or gather feedback; and that's not a bad thing. Gameplay was polished, partially because the game mechanics are essentially the same as in Trine. You play the same three characters that were bound with the Trine in their first adventure: the wizard, the knight, and the thief, each with their own skills and utility.
This time each has a little bit more of a built out skill tree that you can work your way down to tailor the gameplay to your own personal flavor. Like exploding arrows? Check. Rather levitate baddies and throw them into pits and traps? Got that too. Overall the whole skill presentation feels a bit more thought out and well implemented this time around.
The fine blend of action and puzzle platforming is still ever present and taken to the next level, but perhaps a little bit less frustrating. I'm not sure if I gained some skill playing through the first Trine, if it is just still too early to tell, or if Frozenbyte learned a little bit since Trine as well - the result is that it is very well balanced. Fun, but still challenging, never yet crossing over into un-fun frustration mode that I sometimes ran into in the first game.
The environments in Trine 2 are nothing short of breathtaking. They are gorgeous and inviting, and still to date, some of the best looking fantasy environments I've ever seen in a game or movie. Or imagination. Overall Tine 2 is shaping up to be like an expanded and refined Trine 1. If you loved the first Trine, everything is prettier, better balanced, and more fun in Tine 2. I can't wait until the full game is released come December. At $14.99 it is sure to be one of the most charming fun little games of the year. But don't take my word for it, Rose is planning on doing a full-blown review upon release, so keep an eye out!
In the meantime, check out some screen shots from my Trine 2 beta play through.
Markus must be proud of the knockout Minecraft grew up to be, now surpassing the 4 million sold mark. How do I know? He tweeted "4milyay". Minecraft is fast approaching the release of version 1.0 on November the 18th at Minecon in Las Vegas, and currently has 16 million registered players. Dear readers, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the first time a game still in beta had a large enough following to have a convention. Amazing.
I know I still love the Minecraft, and had more recently learned just how much more fun it can be with a community. I play on Cobaltium if anyone else is there, stop by and say 'hi'!
Don't forget, this is your last chance to get the 25% discount while Minecraft is still in beta. Once it goes 1.0 it will be full price!
Skyrim officially went gold today, apparently pushing it to the last second being that the game is due out Friday. Bethesda's latest and greatest may even be available a touch early depending on where you're at and what version you purchased. For you who did a steam pre-order, it is slated to unlock on 11-10-11 rather than the oft advertised 11-11-11. It isn't available for pre-load just yet (just went gold after all), but we'll keep you informed.
To help celebrate Skyrim going gold, here is a Skyrim rap (thanks VG247) to help get you in the mood to rock it out in just a few days time!
I wasn't planning to buy ACR, but now that I've watched the video I'm definitely going for it.
I can't help but feel terrible for all of the AMD employees who are about to lose their jobs in a massive layoff. Thanks to Kago83 for the heads up about this.

The contest is open “to legal residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) France, Germany, United Kingdom, and United States (excluding Florida and New York and including the District of Columbia) who are at least 18 years old .“ If you meet that criteria, then you just have to play some Battlefield 3 multiplayer over this upcoming weekend (00:00:01 Greenwich Mean Time (“GMT”) on November 11, 2011 and 23:59:59 GMT on November 13, 2011).
But, what if you are like me and can only rarely play mp because of some bizarre technical hurdle? Or if you don't even have Battlefield 3? Well, you may still enter the contest by “sending an email to [email protected] with name, home address and email address.”
I've been to Stockholm. It's a lovely place. If any of you happen to win, let me know so I can get all teary eyed with memories of the Vasa museum.
Kashwashwa picked the Sturmtiger, an extremely rare assault gun built on a Tiger I chassis. Only 18 of these were produced, but somehow one made its way into the Men of War series. I've posted a picture of one from the Kubinka tank museum below.
Kashwashwa, send me an email at [email protected] with the subject “Panzer Corps” to claim your prize. Also, please confirm here that you emailed me.
If I don't hear back from Kashwashwa by tomorrow's morning update then a different winner will be chosen at random.
Below is a video showing this monster in action in Men of War. Thanks to Kashwashwa for providing that link and thanks to all the contestants for entering.
So how 'bout that Tribes: Ascend? I managed to get some time in over the weekend and I was rather digging it. I had graphics set to ultra, it looked great and played great. Skiing + jet packs = funx2. In other gaming news... Aussie mag Acomic Maximum Computer Gaming reviewed Skyrim, giving the game a score of 95%. Also listed the developers as id Software, so... yeah.
This is so wrong. Thanks cobalt, yeah, I stole it from you when you weren't looking.
I've been playing this for about an hour and having a great time at it. I highly recommend it, you get a lot of fun for your $0, so what are you waiting for? Download it here.
The DLC info will be slowly filling up this page until its release on the tenth.
If the delay is due to a need for additional polish then, although irrititating, it's understandable. However if - as some people are suggesting - this has been a conscious decision made by the developers with the idea that a simultaneous release would have cannibalised console sales due to piracy (as the Dungeon Defenders dev said just after delaying the PC version and just before the PC version made 80% of overall sales), then there's less sympathy to be had. Perhaps they looked at the game-release horizon and decided they'd be better off waiting - whatever the reason may be, the fact that the devs haven't addressed the issue does nothing to allay the unrest of those who have been anticipating this game on PC since before its first, month-long delay.
Action Mode: For those who want to emphasize action and combat and minimize story management. Action mode will set automatic replies in conversation and a normal difficulty.Story Mode: For those who want to emphasize story immersion and minimize combat pressure. Story mode will set manually-selectable replies in conversation and a minimal combat difficulty.
RPG Mode: For those who want to explore both realms of story and combat. RPG mode will set manually-selectable replies in conversation and a normal combat difficulty.
These modes apparently work as presets, with the ability to further tweak your desired game type available in a separate menu.
The idea that replies to in-game conversation will be automatic in "Action Mode" implies a pre-determined story for that mode, which doesn't sit well with me. However, if this news means that deeper RPG mechanics will be incorporated for those who want them - which screenshots of customisability within the game seem to imply - it might not be all bad.
Thanks go to Neverko & NeoGAF for the news.
The state of semi-uselessness hasn't really allowed me much in the way of concentration or enjoyment of anything in life, but there were a couple of games I could just about manage. Walking around the rainy streets of Gemini Rue (a space-faring pixel-art point-and-click) was pretty pleasant, but the shooty sections got a little bit stressful for my weary mucus-laden brain. Sequence (a PC/XBLA rhythm game) was a terrible choice from the very beginning but I find it impossible to leave those games alone once I'm inside them, even though they make me want to kill/die. I think I'm inching toward a less enfeebled state, but even saying that has probably guaranteed me at least another week of darkness. Are there any games you like playing when your brain is goop on the floor?
Here's a video of an anthropomorphic robot with a flashing light for a head. Robots are immune to spit-borne pathogens. I like watching them move.
