FreeSol is a unique hip-hop, rock, and soul infused band from Memphis, TN. They came together in 2003 when FreeSol Anderson (aka Free) decided to move beyond the basic hip-hop formula of "two turntables and a mic" and form an actual band. Soon thereafter, some very good fortune led him to meet Elliott Ives (guitar/vocals), Premo D'Anger (bass), and Kickman Teddy (drums). The 4-piece circled back for the vinyl a few years later, adding DJ Charlie White to the fold. The name, "FreeSol", refers to a state of mind - a freedom of expression - with a main objective of never conforming to the usual way of doing things. Especially in music. Armed with this philosophy, Free's fresh and intelligent lyrics, and the band's incredible musicianship, FreeSol quickly infiltrated the live band scene as they toured the country playing gigs of all sizes, and battled their way to win every competition they entered (*Mid-South GRAMMY Showcase, BMI Urban Music Showcase, Turner South's My South Rocks competition, and The Rock Boat's Grand Championship competition). In 2006, Justin Timberlake (also a Memphis native) saw FreeSol perform at a jazz cafe in their hometown. Needless to say he was blown away, because shortly thereafter, he signed them to his upstart label, Tennman Records. After taking a little time to hone in on the FreeSol sound, Justin was able to help secure them a major deal with Interscope Records. Which brings us to todayâ€¦ Most recently, FreeSol has been doing some light touring while in the midst of finishing up their major label debut. The album, scheduled to be released at the beginning of 2012, includes production by Timbaland (Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado), Jim Jonsin (Beyonce, Pitbull), Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Eminem), Dave Tozer (Jay-Z, Kanye West), Rob Knox (T.I., Chris Brown), and last but not least, JT.
