Comic books are expensive. With cover prices on the rise and more titles than ever hitting the stands, it can be difficult to know how to spend your hard-earned cash. That's where IGN Comics comes in. One of our primary goals is to let readers know what's out there and what's worth looking at. To help you, each Monday we bring you the...

The Guide is split into three sections. On the first page, we present Major Releases - the biggest and most significant books of the week. On the second page, various members of the IGN Comics crew offer their Personal Picks based on what they're most looking forward to. Finally, the third page contains the full Shipping List from Diamond Comics.
Note – Due to the U.S. holiday last week, new books will be arriving in stores on Thursday instead of Wednesday (in the States). However, shipping times often vary in post-holiday weeks, so be sure to check with your LCS to find out when you can expect your books to arrive.
Heroes for Hire #1
Writer: Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning
Artist: Brad Walker
Publisher: Marvel
Price: $3.99
Sad that Iron Fist, Ghost Rider, and Moon Knight don't have their own solo books at the moment? Wish that Falcon, Elektra, and Misty Knight had higher profiles in the Marvel U? If you long for more from any of these characters, Heroes for Hire is the book for you. Marvel's latest revival of this super-powered band of private investigators brings some truly big guns to the roster. Literally, in the case of the Punisher. And in the fallout of Shadowland it may take a team as large as the new Heroes for Hire to keep the streets of New York safe. Here's hoping Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning can work the same magic here they have on their various cosmic projects.
Shadowland #5
Writer: Andy Diggle
Artist: Billy Tan
Publisher: Marvel
Price: $3.99
The big battle between Daredevil's minions and the heroes of New York comes to a close this week. Will Matt Murdock find redemption, or has he been damned though his recent actions? All we know is that when the dust clears, Hell's Kitchen will be short one Guardian Devil. Our Review Crew haven't exactly been kind to previous issues of Shadowland, but that doesn't mean we aren't interested to see where this series leaves Matt Murdock.
Wolverine: The Best There Is #1
Writer: Charlie Huston
Artist: Juan Jose Ryp
Publisher: Marvel
Price: $3.99
There may be three Wolverine monthly books on the market, but only one of them actually stars Logan himself. That's why it's not too surprising to see Marvel launch a fourth ongoing series that focuses more directly on the ol' Canucklehead. The Best There Is is meant a a standalone project that operates outside the current "Wolverine Goes to Hell" storyline. It also marks the return of novelist Charlie Huston to Marvel. Huston helped revitalize Moon Knight a few years ago. Can he do the same for this most obscure of X-Men?
Brightest Day Vol. 1 - HC
Writer: Geoff Johns & Pete Tomasi
Artist: Various
Publisher: DC
Price: $24.99
By now DC has released all of its numerous Blackest Night hardcovers. Those trade-waiters hungry for more can get started on the next chapter with Brightest Day Vol. 1. This volume collects issues #0-7 of the biweekly series. Despite the pleasant-sounding name, things aren't exactly rosy for those heroes and villains resurrected at the end of Blackest Night. This book showcases the struggles of Deadman, Aquaman and Mera, Martian Manhunter, and Hawkman and Hawkgirl as they fight to reclaim their lives and take advantage of their second chances.
Civil War: Spider-Man - HC
Writer: J. Michael Straczynski, Peter David, & Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
Artist: Various
Publisher: Marvel
Price: $39.99
Marvel still isn't done re-releasing Civil War and its tie-ins in hardcover format. This week's installment is a particularly important one. Fans of Civil War know Spider-Man formed the backbone of the struggle between pro and anti-registration forces. However, the full extent of his rise and fall was documented in J. Michael Straczynski's Amazing Spider-Man. Along with Civil War: Front Line, this volume is essential reading for anyone wishing to experience the full scope and tragedy of the event.
Fables Vol. 14: Witches – TPB
Writer: Bill Willingham
Artist: Mark Buckingham
Publisher: DC
Price: $17.99
Vertigo's series tend to have a larger proportion of trade-waiters than with most books, and Fables perhaps more so than the rest. Those fans' last experience with Fables will have been the underwhelming "Great Fables Crossover". Luckily, the next volume of the series is finally up for grabs. Witches collects issues #86-93 of the main series. Fables quickly got back on track as it resumed focus on the war against Mr. Dark and the power vacuum left behind by Frau Totenkinder's departure. This trade brings Fables one large step closer to the big issue #100.
