Does December 3, 2001 mean anything to you? It does for many die-hard Nintendo fans, as that date marked the debut of Super Smash Bros. Melee, just a short two (torturous) weeks after the launch of the GameCube. With only three installments in its history, each release of Super Smash Bros. is an occasion to celebrate. Let's face it, the second a Smash Bros. game comes out we immediately start thinking about a sequel. It's even more difficult to not think of the franchise with the 3DS coming early next year and a possible Wii 2 on the horizon.

We have plenty to say about Smash Bros., and you'll definitely hear more about the franchise in the months to come. For now, we're curious: which of the three games is your favorite? Though each game seemingly improved on its predecessor, the additions and increasingly manic gameplay could easily alienate those looking for a more streamlined experience. Plus no doubt many of you have a favorite character in one release or another. Some (Jigglypuff) have seen their power levels drastically change over the years while others (Snake, Sonic) have only seen one iteration.

So vote in the poll below, and then follow up in the comments below. We'd love to know why you picked the game you did. Is it the character mix? The levels? The options? Do you think the series simply gets better with each release? We want to know!
