Introduction

Certain games are certified around the world as bona fide classics. Final Fantasy IV, first released Stateside in 1991 as one of the Super Nintendo's earliest RPGs, is one of those games. No matter how many times it's released and re-released (such as its release on PlayStation as half of Final Fantasy Chronicles, and it's more recent release on the Game Boy Advance in 2005), it still offers something fresh and new. But now, we have a remake of Final Fantasy IV, in all of its 3d glory on the Nintendo DS.

But things aren't what they once were in the world of Final Fantasy IV. The game wasn't easy to begin with, but this remake comes complete with a considerable re-haul in terms of difficulty. Even Final Fantasy IV veterans will have difficulty with parts of this game, and that's where we come in. Whether you simply need to brush up on your Final Fantasy IV fundamentals by reading the basics section or need a primer on characters and what they bring to the table, our guide has you covered. This doesn't even begin to mention the epic walkthrough and side quests sections, which quite literally leave no stone unturned in completing the game.

So grab your DS, friend -- Cecil and friends are waiting. And, as always, IGN Guides has your back from start to finish. Do you have what it takes to repel attacks from an unknown force and save Earth? Only time will tell.

In this Final Fantasy IV DS strategy guide, you'll find:

  • BASICS // This isn't an easy RPG, but our basics will get you started.
  • CHARACTERS // Final Fantasy IV DS is all about characters -- what does each offer?
  • WALKTHROUGH // A complete hand-holding through the entire game's main quest...
  • SIDE QUESTS // ...and plenty of information about the optional side quests, too.
  • APPENDICES // Weapons, armor and other gear chronicled here, as well as items and magic.
