The Only Enterprise IT Event in 2010
Covering the Entire Scope of the
Cloud Computing Spectrum
Cloud computing is steadily becoming an integral
part of the enterprise computing environment.

Cloud Expo was announced on February 24, 2007, the day the term "cloud computing" was coined. That same year, the first Cloud Expo took place in New York City with 450 delegates. In November, Cloud Expo is returning to Santa Clara with more than 5,000 delegates and over 100 sponsors and exhibitors.

"Cloud" has become synonymous with "computing" and "software" in two short years. Cloud Expo is the new PC Expo, Comdex, and InternetWorld of our decade. By 2012, more than 50,000 delegates per year will participate in Cloud Expo worldwide.

The cloud is certainly a compelling alternative to running all applications within a traditional corporate data center. But moving from theory into practice is where things get complicated, and this is where attending a top industry event like Cloud Expo comes in.

No one can take full advantage of cloud computing without first becoming familiar with the latest issues and trends, which is why the organizing principle of the 7th International Cloud Expo on November 1-4, 2010, is to ensure - through an intensive four-day schedule of keynotes, general and breakout sessions, and our bustling Expo Floor - that attending delegates leave the Santa Clara Convention Center with abundant resources, ideas and examples they can apply immediately to leveraging the Cloud, helping them to maximize performance, minimize cost and improve the scalability of their Enterprise IT endeavors.

Delegates will leave 7th Cloud Expo with dramatically increased understanding of the entire scope of the cloud computing spectrum, from storage to security.

The Santa Clara Convention Center is the only place to be November 1-4, 2010, if you build, sell or purchase applications or infrastructure delivered as a cloud service. End users, IT professionals and vendors alike are all encouraged to participate.

Whether you're an enterprise or small to medium business, you'll soon be benefiting from the Cloud. Join your peers in Santa Clara November 1-4, and maximize those benefits already in 2010. See you in Santa Clara!

CloudBerry Lab has released CloudBerry Explorer v1.1, an application that allows users to manage files on Windows Azure blog storage just as they would on their local computers. CloudBerry Explorer allows end users to accomplish simple tasks without special technical knowledge, automate time-consuming tasks to improve productivity. Among new features are Development Storage and $root container support and availability of the professional version of CloudBerry Explorer for Azure. Development storage is a local implementation of Azure storage that is installed along with Azure SDK. Users can use it to test and debug their Azure applications locally before deploying them to Azure. The newer version of CloudBerry Explorer allows working with the Development Storage the same way you work with the online storage.
Ebix, an international supplier of On-Demand software and E-commerce services to the insurance industry, unveiled on Wednesday its strategy for Cloud computing and announced the new Ebix Cloud family of products and services for the Insurance market. Within the Cloud computing model, all Ebix solutions and software will be delivered as a utility or on a pay-per-use model basis. Built on top of the current Ebix product portfolio, these offerings would provide a range of services from collaboration infrastructure to data integration solutions. Ebix’s Cloud-computing platforms will allow an insurance entity to outsource data center and application hosting across multiple platforms to a single managed service provider. This will work to drive costs down and improve overall performance and reliability.
StorSimple on Wednesday announced integration with Amazon, EMC, Iron Mountain, and Microsoft to enable customers to seamlessly and securely use these cloud storage services with their existing data-center applications. By providing an easy on-ramp to cloud storage for application-specific requirements, StorSimple aims to change the game by bringing the operational benefits of the cloud to applications such as SharePoint, Exchange, Windows User Files and Virtual Machines. “With the upcoming launch of SharePoint 2010, customers will increasingly look to extend their deployments with cloud-based services,” said Ed English, group product manager, Microsoft SharePoint. “The hybrid storage solution from StorSimple is a good example of this; it shows how SharePoint customers can realize cost and scale benefits by using the Windows Azure Platform.”
CloudLinux announced on Wednesday that its CloudLinux is fully compatible with R1Soft, a server backup and data recovery company that provides Continuous Data Protection (CDP) software for Windows and Linux servers. Over 180,000 mission critical Windows, Linux, and Cloud servers use R1Soft’s high-performance, disk-to-disk backup software around the world. “With its next-generation software R1Soft is the leading backup and disaster recovery software for hosting and the Cloud, so it is crucial for CloudLinux OS to ensure compatibility,” states Igor Seletskiy, CEO of CloudLinux. “With CloudLinux now fully compatible we can offer wide-scale support across R1Soft's offering.”

Cloud computing is a game changer. The cloud is disrupting traditional software and hardware business models by disrupting how IT service gets delivered. Entrepreneurial opportunities abound as this classic disruptive technology begins to proliferate, so it is no surprise that SYS-CON's industry-leading International Cloud Expo is going from strength to strength. Call for Papers is now open!
The talk at the Cloud Computing Expo this week in Santa Clara was all about enterprise cloud adoption. Is it real? Is it already happening? If so, who’s doing it, which applications are they running and which clouds are being tested? To a large extent, cloud computing is a victim of its own somewhat out-of-control hype cycle. Since so much has been written and discussed about the cloud in 2009, there is now a growing impatience for actual results.
The most anticipated talk of the day yesterday, at the 4th International Cloud Expo, was by the deputy CIO of the CIA, Jill Singer. Her talk was entitled, "Enterprise Cloud Computing, the Infrastructure’s Final Revenge." She acknowledged the problem with defining Cloud Computing, and then went on to give her paragraph-length definition of “the cloud”. Her talk focused on the part of the Cloud behind the firewall. “Today’s CIO must increase the flexibility of the infrastructure,” said Singer.
Yahoo aims to be one of the 800-pound gorrillas--along with Google, Amazon, and several major technology companies--in the upcoming battles for hosting dominance in the Cloud Computing space. As Shugar noted in the days before his presentation, the company "is developing and utilizing Internet-scale cloud computing services to improve the consumer experience, speed innovation, simplify operating environments, and reduce costs.
Having gone through a couple of decades worth of technology conferences, a familiar cycle occurs. For the first couple years, technology-related conferences are attended by engineers and operations people. Only after the technology has passed a couple of feasibility gates and begun to hit the business cycle do sales and marketing people take over. Cloud is now officially past the engineering phase, well into the sales phase – and the business community is scrambling to understand the implications of a virtualized world.
The first "Ulitzer New Media Power Panel" took place today at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California. Streamed live to 60,000 viewers via SYS-CON.TV, the panel was moderated by Jeremy Geelan. Geelan's guests in the first power panel were Ian Thain and Tim Crawford. The first "Ulitzer Live! - New Media Conference & Expo " will take place on June 14, 2010 in New York City and will present a world class faculty who will analyze new media, content marketing strategies, social CRM, enterprise social media, personal branding tools, and many other subjects.
As of January 2010, we booked more revenue for 2010 than the entire fiscal year 2009 actuals, including unearned income with record sponsorship sales for Cloud Expo East, Cloud Expo West and Cloud Expo Europe events. Our revised revenue projections for 2010 is on track for an all time record revenues since our company's inception in 1994, including media sales up in January from a year ago. As I made a reference to sponsorship and expo sales, I encourage all our sponsors to take contract option 2 which includes Cloud Expo 2010 East (New York City), Cloud Expo 2010 Europe (Prague, Czech Republic), and Cloud Expo 2010 West (Silicon Valley, California) events.
Since we announced Cloud Expo three years ago in 2007 and launched it in March of 2008 in New York City, I have been personally working with the companies that are in leadership positions as the Cloud technologies form. Today, we have close to a 100% resign rate among our sponsors for the upcoming Cloud Expo, which will take place April 19-21, 2010, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. I would like to take this opportunity to share some tips with all our valued sponsors, exhibitors, our rock start faculty, as well as our delegates.
