In the run-up to the two next Cloud Expos, 6th Cloud Expo (June 21–22, 2010) in Prague, Czech Republic and 7th Cloud Expo (November 1–4, 2010) being held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Silicon Valley, it's time to give my earlier list a complete overhaul. Here, accordingly, is an expanded list of the most active players in the Cloud Ecosystem. I have increased it from the 'mere' 150 I identified back in January of this year, to 250, testimony – as if any were needed! – to the fierce and continuing growth of the "Elastic IT" paradigm throughout the world of enterprise computing. MySQL Ace To Run Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus Session at Cloud Expo Mårten Mickos, the guy who sold MySQL to Sun for a billion dollars, has got himself another company. Now all he has to do is find another sucker like Sun. Mårten, who wouldn't be Mårten without that cute little Finnish doohickey over his name, has been named CEO of Eucalyptus Systems, the open source private cloud start-up. Woody Rollins, who was CEO, has morphed into the company's CFO. Since leaving Sun and MySQL last year, Mårten has been at Benchmark Capital, which backed MySQL, as entrepreneur-in-residence trying to spot his next opportunit... (more)

Google Can Thank Apple for AdMob Clearance

Despite all the anxiety expressed by rivals, advertisers and watchdog groups and all the rumors of regulators moving to block the deal on antitrust grounds, the Federal Trade Commission last Friday rubberstamped Google's $750 million acquisition of mobile advertising house AdMob. It seems Apple's move into the space with its iAd platform for the iPhone and iPad as well as its acquisition of Quattro Wireless, the third-largest mobile ad network, makes the market competitive. Google said it would close on the acquisition in the next few weeks. ... (more)

Cloud Expo, Inc. Registers Worldwide Cloud Expo (TM) Trademark

As the Fifth International Cloud Expo (TM) approaches, word has come that its producer, Cloud Expo, Inc., based in Woodcliff Lake, NJ, has received serial number 85009040 from the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). Cloud Expo was announced on February 24, 2007, the day the term "cloud computing" was coined, according to its producers. "That same year, the first Cloud Expo took place in New York City with 450 delegates," the company reports.
