I was on a LinkedIn thread titled ‘How cloud computing is different from
SaaS‘ where Rick Chapman who runs SoftLetter and SaaS University went on
beating on this question ‘What is a private cloud’?
It is definitely worth it given the tremendous amount of confusion in the
term ‘Cloud’ in general and ‘Private Cloud’ in particular. The
motivation for this post is Rick and supported by a tweet I read around the
same time from ‘Carl Brooks‘ who is a technology writer on Cloud at
TechTarget. Let me give it a shot.

Investigative writer Stacey Higginbotham, who is never happier than when

has spent the last ten years covering technology and finance for publications
such as The Deal, the Austin Business Journal, The Bond Buyer and Business
Week, speculated yesterday afternoon on the GigaOm site that VMware might be
contemplating its next Cloud acquisition - to go with Zimbra and
SpringSource.
In its sights, says Higginbotham, is EngineYard. Is VMware going to add Ruby
on Rails to its Java mix? Only time will tell...

Intel is working on a solution in its China Research Center, called "From Air
to Access Cloud." It is a solution aimed at making a whole enterprise IT
domain as a service, provided by WIMAX operators. The domain thus provided
contains private network and all subscribed services.
The key value to the enterprise is that enterprise users can access the
services from anywhere covered by the operator's WIMAX without needing to use
a VPN, and access also becomes possible to different SaaS services with
