ImageMagick - Powerful Programmatic Image Processing

ImageMagick is a free and open source software package for modifying and creating images. Unlike graphics packages such as The GIMP that provide tools for manual creation and manipulation of images, ImageMagick is meant to be used by programs to generate and adjust images automatically. Interfaces are available for many programming languages, including Ada, C, C++, Java, Lisp, Pascal, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, and Tcl/TK. It can also be used from the command line.

WINK - Free Software For Creating Tutorials and Presentations

Here is nice piece of software for creating tutorial or presentation movies. It is particularly well suited for creating tutorials for software, and it can capture screenshots. The user can add explanation boxes and record voice messages. Output formats include Flash, PDF, HTML and stand-alone executable. It runs on both Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems. Photo Organizer digiKam 2.0.0 Released

The free and open source image management software digiKam has been updated to version 2.0.0. Highlights of this release include image versioning, reverse geocoding (finding addresses from GPS coordinates), support for XMP sidecar files (for storing metadata), and face detection and recognition software, with still somewhat limited capabilities.

OpenJDK Consolidates Support

Europe's largest software company, SAP, has joined the OpenJDK project. By signing the Oracle Contributor Agreement SAP can now participate in the development process of the Java reference implementation. Java 7 is the version currently under development, and OpenJDK 7 will be the reference implementation for it.
