Bryan Singer Confirmed to Direct Superman: The Man of Steel

Source:  IESB.net
It has been confirmed that Bryan Singer (X-Men) will return to direct Superman: The Man of Steel, the sequel to Superman Returns. IESB spoke to a source at Warner Brothers who confirmed Singer's involvement.

The story also provides insight as to who may be writing the script. Writers Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, who wrote Superman Returns, are out. So who is in? Well, the strong possibility is that the film will be written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The duo previously gained notice for their script writing on Transformers.

The pair of writers have apparently had "several meetings" with Warner Brothers regarding the film.

Brandon Routh, who played Superman in Superman Returns, has already confirmed that he will be returning for Superman: The Man of Steel as well.

My god, Superman Returns was the single most boring theatrical experience of my life. It's two and a half hours I'll never get back, and there's no way that I'll willingly give this hack another two and a half.

I thought Singer's first attempt of Superman was a great ode to the original series done by Donner. However, I think that the sequel should be a lot more bold with its villains. I think we're in a age that movie making has more appeal to audiences' expectations. We'll simply wait and see what happens.

To ComradeHenson. Do you maybe have a link to those designs. I'd dig to see them and I think you're right. I don't think they need to do a complete redesign of the suit, but definately some different 'textures' or material styles would be great.

i dare agree with comrade on the "returns" comment!!

The originals a=have a sentimental value to me, and I think that's why I didn't hate Returns, but I definitely thing that Returns was a good END to the Donner movies.

It is time to see a different take on Superman, even if it is under the same director (just make him read some of the comics this time).

Superman's costume can stay with the same style, but be given material and color modifications to make it look less cheesy than the 70's one. I saw no problems with the new one, though if you look at some of the concept work for the suit in Returns you get to see some pretty cool ideas that never made it to the screen. Believe it or not, there was actually on drawing that made the "underwear" work a lot better. I also like how Returns' Superman had a more slender build, but still had the necessary musculature. it made the character more majestic.

The suit's become so much of a symbol / pop culture icon in itself that I don't think the masses necessarily take it as being cheesy or go "aw geez...stupid suit with the red underwear".Its just an accepted convention that its what Superman should and does wear. Still I agree with spetnatz...it might not hurt to bring on an updated costume...some dude designed one which he called 'ultimate superman', I like it. oh and me too :REEBOOT.

I also feel a reboot is neccissary. Returns was a F*$@ up of a F*$@ up of a F*$@ up of a F*$@ up of a F*$@ up. All the Superman movies so far were just wrong. The stories were made up, they give him powers he never had and they made Lex Luther his only villian. BORING! The only reason Routh was chosen is coz he kinda looks like Reeves who does not look like Superman. They need a reboot with a closer following to the comic book, more of Superman's villians like Metallo or The Parasite and - some people will hate me for this - an updated costume. Something that fits with today and not a cheesy 50's spandex outfit.

It was on myspace, so how reliable that information is is questionable, but I want to beleve that John williams is coming back on board. heres the link anyway http://myspace.com/supermansequel2010,
even if he dosen't return to do a new superman score, it would be wrong to change the opening theme. the opening credits were the best part of superman returns.

Kate Bosworth sucked, the son sucked, the love triangle sucked, the movie was goofy and not exciting, Plane sequence and that's it. Doomsday is the only thing that might peak my interest, if spread out over a course of films and done convincingly, but then again Superman's Villains (Lex Luther aside) along with almost every other comic book villains with the exception of Batman and The X-Men Villains are (for the most part) corny and impossible to take seriously.....and aside from a select few, Comic Book films suck and it's getting a little old. They're like our generation's version of too many bad Westerns.

that's why i'm saying that a new theme is needed, john williams is no longer involved in the superman series!!! did you not pay attention to the music of clone wars? or jurassic park 3? or(perfect example)superman II-the lester cut? cheap john williams imitations!!! to continue using the superman theme without it's original composer in charge would be leading the franchisce back to ruin!!!
  (Delete)

wherever did you learn that john williams will be back to resume his work on the superman music score?!?

October 8th, 2008 9:48pm
What!!!??? A new opening theme? you can't change the original theme, that'd be like scrapping the theme to Star wars, besides I here singer has given ottman the boot, apparently he's bringing in john williams!
I Agree on the super villians thing, leave kryptonite out of this one. Create some real tension, by haveing other beings just as powerfull as kal-el. Superman needs to be way more assertive than he was in returns, the worst thing he called lex was an old man.lol.
at least reeve called hackman an old diseased maniack. And in smallville Clark is often trying to keep his darkside in check, wich of course makes the character much more exciting and interesting.
Singer we need a much snappier script please, suspence, real looking bloody super battles, No unnessasery CGI superman, like in returns When he flys from the baseball stadium, just before he flys toward the sun to re'energise (which was a nice touch by the way) and just before the end credits most shameful of all close ups on the CGI superman.
we need to leave the cinema with a real feel good factor this time, please.

Wow, this story really took off. I've yet to see any "Superman" film all the way through. I've only seen roughly 2/3 of the first and I didn't think it was that good. And why do they always return to Lex Luthor as a villain? That'd be like recycling Joker over and over again for the same type of movie rather than changing the dynamic like they did with "The Dark Knight" in retrospect to Tim Burton's "Batman" from 1989 in retrospect to the original Batman from 1966.

I mean, I know that "Superman Returns" looked a whole lot better, and that it was according to every reviewer out there I know of, but it seemed to be the same I've heard in regards to plot and style. I also read that Lex Luthor would return for the next Superman movie. Is that true?

Am I right on any of this?
