Brummana gathers its citizens without any
confessional discrimination: It is a symbol of co-living. In
fact, it did not witness any conflict throughout history, not
even during civil wars, although the Christians nowadays
represent 85% of its citizens who were in the past, equally
divided between Christians and Druze.
Brummana represents a prototype of the multi-confessionalism
characterizing Lebanon, since the 17 confessions of Lebanon
co-live in it. |

The beautiful Lebanese features are evident in Brummana. There
was sympathy between the confessions. This sympathy kept the
Christians in good terms with the Druze in this small town,
which gives it its upper rank. Brummana High School, established
in 1788 by the British Friends Association is one of the
factors making Brummanas inhabitants very open towards each
other. |
This mentality is the result of two factors: The English culture
and the contact that students have always had with their non -
Lebanese colleagues that became businessmen and presidents of
states.
Long ago, Brummana did not know sectarianism; its inhabitants
inherited love, tolerance, solidarity, and respect. With time,
it did not witness any sectarian disorder or conflict, and did
not suffer from any displacement.
It was said that the Maronite Awad family and the Druze Maksad
family have agreed, since many years, that any of them may
dispose of the properties of the other in case it passes away.
On the other hand, since around 3 centuries, the Monastery of
Prophet Isaiah was transferred from Orthodox to catholic. |
