��history: SNOBOL (StroNg Oriented symBOli Language) was created in 1962 by D.J. Farber, R.E. Griswold, and F.P. Polensky at Bell Telephone Laboratories. Intended for processing strings, the language was the first to use associative arrays, indexed by any type of key. Had features for pattern-matching, concatenation, and alternation. Allowed running code stored in strings. Data types: integer, real, array, table, pattern, and user defined types.

��SNOBOL 3 was released in 1965.

��SNOBOL 4 was released in 1967.
