EPJ Techniques and Instrumentation is a fully open-access single-blind peer-reviewed journal primarily focusing on advances in experimental and computational methods and techniques in all areas of fundamental and applied physics.
Of particular interest to the journal are:
-
Technical and methodological advances produced by
· novel laboratory-specific custom instrumentation and diagnostics or innovative refinements to established experimental setups
· advances in data science and machine learning techniques, typically in combination with progress in experimental research
-
The critical assessment, validation and documentation of previously established knowledge through the
· comprehensive review and documentation of relevant laboratory instrumentation or related computing, with respect to relevant technical procedures, data protocols and similar.
· establishment of best practices and related benchmark studies
Overall, articles are expected to summarize and suitably document significant progress on concepts and methodologies, and to provide a detailed description of related instrumentation, hardware, software and any other techniques or equipment. A clear emphasis on producing well-documented and reproducible research is expected, as is the willingness to publicly share corresponding data and software.
EPJ Techniques and Instrumentation publishes mostly regular articles (comprising original research articles, progress and technical reports). Review articles within the scope of the journal are through invitation only. Similarly, topical collections will be strictly via invitation only.
EPJ Techniques and Instrumentation is published in close collaboration with the EPS Young Minds Action Committee and explicitly serves the purpose of fostering the participation and education of early career researchers in the scientific journal publication process at all levels (editorial board and refereeing). Authors should be aware of this before submitting their manuscripts. In particular, the Editors-in-Chief reserve the right to desk-reject any submission that is deemed unsuitable for the journal and appeals to desk-rejections are not possible.
